Right before the holiday chaos set in, I completed a small, but, in my opinion, mighty makeover in my front entryway. As the spot where I enter and exit my home, this space gets used daily. But I had been neglecting it, probably because it’s a transitional zone where things like mail, packages, and tote bags tend to accumulate.
My theory, though, has always been that if you take the time to decorate a room, you’ll treat it a little better in terms of keeping it neat and tidy. Banking on that, I refreshed the window seat bench with a new cushion and shopped my house for a rug and table to accessorize the room a bit. But the most impactful change by far? I had the walls and ceiling painted a beautiful, enveloping dark green (thanks to my friends at Yelp and the brand’s Local Services and Assistant offerings, which team you up with well-reviewed nearby pros for a slew of different projects).
Now, I actually want to spend time in this space — and I hope you’ll click through to the story just below to see how the rest of the room shaped up (what’s above might be my favorite feature in the room, but this isn’t even close to my favorite shot of the area). I’d like to replace the windows and the tile floor at some point, but this is a good start.
And just a quick reminder, in case you need to hear it: Sometimes, it’s nice to outsource something on your to-do list — big or small — if you can swing it, especially in this busy time of year.
