I’ve been thinking a lot lately about kitchens — maybe because mine could use a total renovation. The laminate counters are showing their age (although I like the color, and they’re super easy to clean). And we just replaced our probably 20-year-old dishwasher with my father’s 10-year-old one, since he just upgraded his own appliances. Right now, it’s all about little tweaks to make the room just a little bit more beautiful and certainly more functional until we have the time, money, and energy to put our full stamp on it.
As I look for design inspiration for this future project, I’ve been drawn to simple kitchens, like this one I snapped at the Plain English showroom in New York City last week. The brand’s wooden cabinetry is sturdy and will never go out of style, and the marble they’ve chosen to accent the dark bases with here feels the same. The quirky portrait and picture light? I know I’d like to cook around those kinds of decorative touches. To me, a kitchen should be as cozy and “you” design-wise as any other room of the house.
And so, this week, I bring you a healthy dose of color palette inspo below and news on the latest home decor collections arriving on the scene, whether you, too, are contemplating a reno or just want a piece or two to spruce things up for spring. Plus, we have our first-ever “Designer Spotlight,” where I’ll be introducing you to some of my favorite designer friends and new talent on my radar. Because one of my favorite things to do is lift up the great work the pros are doing!
