This Random $50 Amazon Find Solved One of My Biggest Bedroom Annoyances
As someone whose favorite hobbies include Netflix and pop culture gossip, I take my television time very seriously. While my boyfriend and I have a great setup in our living room — complete with a 65-inch screen, soundbar, and sectional that’s so comfortable we’ve fallen asleep on it multiple times — our bedroom could use some improvement.
You see, we love curling up in bed with a big bowl of popcorn and our latest streaming obsession; it’s “New Girl” right now, in case you were wondering. We even invested in a large television to make our bedroom binge session all the more enjoyable. Problem is we’ve placed our television on a low-slung dresser, which makes it hard to physically see the screen. Yes, even when we use our beloved reading pillows.
Though my boyfriend did find the perfect height by placing our television on two stacks of books, the design enthusiast in me couldn’t stand the topsy-turvy tomes. Desperate to find a stylish, more permanent solution, I spent an embarrassing amount of time on Amazon and eventually stumbled upon Convenience Concept’s television riser. Fortunately, this item works like a charm.
Risers might be the norm with secondary computer monitors but televisions? Not so much. However, at 42-inches wide and nearly eight-inches high, this riser is large enough to fit our bedroom television’s screen and gives it a height boost that’s comparable my boyfriend’s stack of books hack. For just $50, this riser has made a huge difference in our viewing experience. Instead of propping up a bunch of pillows or smoothing out the duvet cover every few minutes to see the screen, we can kick back, relax, and just watch. Though some assembly was required, that took twenty minutes, tops, and now we never have to worry about craning our necks ever again either.
Convenience Concepts’ riser does more than hoist up our television screen; the two empty areas under the riser double as stealthy storage. Before ordering this stand, we would put everything on our dresser, and I mean everything: coins, old receipts, random pens, and more. Now we have two wire bins in these areas to stash clean masks, spare socks, or remotes.
The only downside I can think of is the color. Available in five hues — black, espresso, light oak, cherry, and white — this stand doesn’t exactly “go” with our light gray furniture. That’s one drawback that’s totally fixable though; I’ve already grabbed a few swatches from the hardware store and have every intention to repaint this game-changer. You could also cover it in temporary wallpaper, too, should a pop of pattern or texture be more apropos in your space. Grasscloth, maybe, to promote those calming vibes in a sleep space? Refinished or not, if you want a leg up on binge-watching in bed and find that your dresser is a little too low for comfort, I can’t recommend one of these risers more.
